Show don't tell

Its cylindrical shape shines in the light, illuminating my next destination. The nice metal casing hides the destructive gears inside. It perfects, but also destroys, all who enter its domain, but I grab hold of its handle anyway. It holds its place on the wall as I spin its handle round. I can hear its gears grinding up its next victim, but I continue on anyway because perfection is what is necessary to keep my grades in tact. It finally finishes its destruction and I remove its victim from its dark depths and return to my essay. It can only be graded if it can be read and now I have legibility on my side.

Secrets

I, personally, have never held a secret so long that it had any effect on my composure or anything of the likes. I normally stay away from things that would make me feel bad because I know all too well how easily I feel guilty. I don't really have much to say about keeping a bad secret because I really never get involved in anything that would be considered bad.
Whenever I feel guilty, though, I really can't think. I'm always wide awake, thinking of what to do to make it better. Sometimes I feel like I'm even going to throw up.
Its not really that often that I'm in those situations though.

New Year's Resolution

This year I decided that my resolution would be to not spend so much time on my homework and stop procrastinating.

I plan to keep this resolution by paying more attention to what I'm supposed to be doing. Too many times I've caught myself trying to avoid doing homework until the last second. Then I complain that I have no free time.

Winter Beauty by Joan Adams Burchell

When it's winter in the Valley
and my breath hangs in the air,
The snow will crunch beneath my feet
and glisten in the air.
The stars at night light up my world
so I never walk alone;
It's clear and crisp and beautiful
in the Valley I call home.

The Flight of Icarus

The greek mythological story of the flight of Icarus has, for some reason, always stuck out in my mind. I'm not exactly sure why it truly has, but thinking about it now, it must have all started with music.
At the time when the story was being told to me, I was into the band Iron Maiden and my favorite song was The Flight of the Icarus. From that came an better understanding of the story, and soon, I was using it as my aim address, then using it as just an alias. It just seemed to stick and I loved the story, I don't really know why.

Q: Do you think young people today value their education as much as Sara Smolinsky does? Why or why not?

Under the current status of being able to get an education easily, most young people do not value their education as much as Sara does, but I believe that if education was as hard to get now as it was back then, it would be held at a much greater value to younger people. It somewhat goes with the saying of you don't know how much you need something until its gone.

Challenging Writing

"There's nothing hard about writing. All you have to do is sit down and open up a vein" (Walter "Red" Smith).

Writing in itself is not hard; an essay can be typed out in a short amount of time, but perfect writing takes many revisions and polishing, so in that aspect I do agree with the quote.
